Fight Club-Review

I would not hesitate to say that Fight Club is one of the best movies ever to be made. The film is a bit violent and graphic, even if you hate violence you will still love the movie, because the movie is not about it.To start with the movie is primarily a satire on modern consumerism and materialistic attitude. This is more or less close to “The Matrix ” genre kind..Surprisingly the movie can be interpreted in different planes..On one side, the movie points that its a personal conflict between a man’s subconscious and his real self..at the same time it is an attack on modern capitalism..the movie also shows a tinges of atheistic,Buddhist and socialistic principles…masculinity in modern times…

The Movie starts of with the narrator himself narrating his story. Who has every thing, but for self-contentment,satisfaction and suffered from insomnia…later he gets addicted to support groups cause it served as an emotional outlet for hi…slowly possessiveness over the groups turns him away from them…subconsciously he is in search for alternative solution for his problems…So he and Tyler Durton, whom he comes across a plane journey, discover a way from moving all this, how do you move away from a problem…just eliminate the problem…They start a Fight Club which served them a way to vent off male aggression, inflict pain and more pain,to desensitise oneself..so that rest all little troubles and pain fades in comparison…and later fight club moves away from being what it is mean to be..it turns in a cult…i wont reaveal anything more about the plot…

The movie is a narration by one of the prime characters in the movie…There are many sequences which are strangely dark and satirical at the same time….like the narrator of the story, wished that he the died in a plane crash during a business trip..since he gets paid thrice the insurance while on a business trip…this is specially amusing cos he has no one for himself in his life…..The dialogues are also spot on,The narrator refuses to smoke because his insurance policy is against it..”The things you own end up owning you” comes the reply….how true….The movie’s narration is subtly humorous, rather a self satire, which most of us can relate to…

And Those who didnt watch the movie…..dont read any further

When one of my friend shared a copy of the movie Fight Club and added “You would be shocked with the ending, its almost impossible to guess it” and you know what..i could figure out that Brad Pitt(Tyller) was the narrator’s hallucination much before the climax. I think, i could because of movies like Beautiful Mind Or may be Sixth Sense…though the specifics in the three movies vary, they still have something in common…in Sixth Sense Bruce Will’s is paranormal, who doesn’t exist with respect to five senses…while in Beautiful Mind Russel Crowe(John Nash) suffers from an illusionary disease of non-existent people, which is quite similar to the “narrator” in Fight club, except here he has an alter ego..

A 9+ pointer for Fight Club.

When H(r)owling Sneezes, Fans catch Cold

Even a slightest expose of any stupid snippet of info on Harry Potter (even if its distinctly related), triggers the fans into a frenzy. The fans bombard message boards as if it is a leak of a stunningly best kept secret on UFOs. They went berserk, my inbox was bombed with 6 mails revealing the name of the latest release, as if I cared and as if the world needs to know. N-number of offlines in my messenger. The scraps in Orkut, not even my cell phone was spared.

Last time there was a Harry Potter release…Oh! yeah i wrote a blog on it, almost 15 months back in yahoo 360….

Were u one of them who lined up get the latest book of HP?

I can see that the whole episode is so much hyped, the media all over the world went ga ga over the event. Its like the more ‘bizzare’ the behaviour of the fans, the more legitimate is the news. They seem to develop a philosophy of “man biting a dog” being essence of news worthiness. I saw on TV in Australia where thousands of fans invaded book stores with LIVE snakes in their HANDS, elsewhwere people dressed as non-magical muggles or magical wizards,as fancy took them and India was no different. To top it all, in Sydney 1000 potter fans re-enacted the famous episode of HP’s arrival into the world of wizardy by gettin into a special train called ______ (some xyz).

Its difficult to say how much of this fuss is spontaneous and how much is contrived gimmickry. But everyone is in a race to out do each others stupidity. There is more to JK than being a producer of fantasy tales. As a promoter of her products she has been quite manipulator of expectations. For well over past 3 years the book has been well advertised, she has been feeding the public about tantalizing leaks about its progress. After its release she fixed a well advertised date of release and media did rest of it for her. Not having read the HP series i m not entitled to judge it.

The book’s merit as an innovative genre of fantasy literature will long be debated. Its the same old story of unending battle between good and evil-the theme for epics and fairy tales. But the HP episodes, more than for its literary contents it is the promotional techniques tht seem to do the trick. The whole thing was well orchestrated sales pitch.

I just want to now if all of it is worth the hype and hullabaloo. I finished reading first one long time ago. Now I am still stuck with the second book, by now all HP fans must be cursing me, planting choicest of abuses on me…never mind!!!

A Movie To Remember

I finished seeing A WALK TO REMEMBER for the fourth time..or may be the fifth time, Its just not any other teen love story, jus more than that..A story about totally opposite teens(mandy moore and shane west) who face peer pressures and the perils of love and death…Apparantly it was an adaption of a novel with the same title..The scenes in the movie are believably real and sad…And this perhaps enters my all time favourite movie list..

Very often people talk about TITANIC being a great love story, while i didnt even jerk a tear…but i dripped quite a few while watching this one..Jamie and Landon(the lead characters) seem to represent the true virtues of life and love..the movie really made me wanna be either of the lead charaters..Mandy Moore and Shane West share a brilliant screen chemistry and their is acting is very impressive…Mandy Moore deserves a special mention…lights up the screen and attracts strange instant charm and affection..The roles suited either of them so well that i just cant imagine of any other actors for the roles… character evolution is brilliant through out the movie..and to my surprise finally a great love story with out any sex..he…he….to my disapointment the movie doesnt end the way,we want it to be it…The background scores are just great, dominated with some guitar backed tracks from Mandy moore and Switchfoot..get the OST if you can,i loved it….Let me tell you again, this is just not any other love story..definitely something more…

oops i forgot to rate it… little less than 9…may be 8.9/10 :)

This And That….

How often do you judge something purely on the basis of external or self imbibed prejudiced notions rather than genuinely weighing them..Funadametally our judgement itself is flawed,no matter how much ever one tries to be rational,we most of the times are biased, cos we fail to break the shackles of pre-conceived perceptions and notions…jingoism jus being one of them..Probably this is one of the factors which acts as a reverse catalyst for our growth as a mankind…

We are all collectively responsible for failure of humanity,we still lack a proper sense of direction,we are clueless and lost…what are our objectives of mankind collectively..are we living for supremacy or for survival…while few of us pride upon spending thousands of dollars on wine n dine and fancy..while the rest of the world struggles even to make a square meal which hardly costs fraction of a dollar..its almost a virtual rape, what we have been doin to the globe..

Excuse me,jus think of it as some boring essay…sundays are always boring for reasons uknown…Last couple of days it was raining movies,i jus finished watching 8 movies in two days..thanks to all those dvd rips which i maged to get…my second sem starts from tomorrow,so back to collage again :( (

I manged to get the album of album Panic! At The Disco, they are quite impressive..do get it if you can..

Have a nice day

A thing for past…

Yesterday I experienced an un-felt feeling,a sort of thing which never happened to pass by my senses…I suddenly woke up from my sleep, my heart was racing quickly and i was sweating..im sure it was not a nightmare..strangely it was some slide show kinda thing of all the unpleasant experiences, rough pathches ,embarrasing situations and most importantly missed opportunites..How would it have been, had i done this?…why was i like that?…i shouldnt have hesitatated back then?

Now that i am past my teens, i would like to believe i had a very colourful teen life..But one stupid night experience like this changed my perception of it all, i might hate myself for being late and even more when the difference between both the extremes is just an effort, which i didnt bother back then.

i was awake all night trying to figure out what it was,was is some kind of warning..or am i sub-conciously repenting for the past…i wish i could jus unstitch my past and taylor it to my needs…

Troy: Review

I’ve always had some strange fascination with time based movies(in backdrop of earlier years),specially those with battles in it..the kind of warfare, the costumes, the background scores..they always give a nice mysitic touch…

The movie starts off with Paris(Prince of Troy) and Helen (Queen Of Spartan) fleeing from spartan after a peace pact between Troy and Spartan..King Menalaus(King Of Spartan) who is enraged over betrayel of the enemy seeks the help from the rest of the Greek Kings, and sets out with a huge naval fleet to win back Helen from Troy.A Battle which is supposedly prophcied 1000 years ago.

The movies primarily revolves around the characters of Achilees(brad pitt),Paris(orlando bloom),Hector(??),Helen(some one,but really beautiful)..and then…………

Arrgg…I really dont know how to write reviews..am i supposed to write the story..or am i supposed to write about, what i feel about the movie..but how would you guys understand it,if you havent seen the movie…let me not bang my head…

The best thing about the movies is neither bradd pitt nor Orlando, but rather the dialogues…the timing, the sense, the punch in the liners were almost perfect…atleast watch it for the sake of dialogues…

This is really not a review…this jus a token of appreciation for the movie,i think this movie really deserves one from my side…Although the movie is not very faithful to the orginal Homer’s Illiad,it still makes a good watch..

Idle Drifter Turns Researcher

I get very strange reactions from people, the moment they hear my name “Mannar”.Are you a Malayalee? Or May be a Tamilian..hey! wait i guess you are from noth India…no no i thought you are from north east India..Are you not a Muslim?..No one ever gets it right…While few ask me what it means, cos its really a strange name to have…What is more surprising is even my parents dont know what exactly it means.

Infact my Great grand father’s dad was also named so,’Sri Raja Mannaru’ precisely. It was told to me that he was a great scholar and kavi(poet) and excelled in Avadhanam (a highly challenging literary feat,he was a shathAvadhani). He was a very late child,it was told that he was born only after his parents took blessings in “Sri Ranga Mannar Temple”(Lord Vishnu’s Temple) which is in Tamil Nadu. And hence the name,so my grand dad presumed that Mannar means “Vishnu” Or “Krishna” (vishnu’s Incarnation).

After a bit of research on the net i came to know that Mannar doesnt mean Vishnu or Krishna either..It is a name of a small Island just above Srilanka and below Tamil Nadu. Mannar means ‘deer river’ or ‘silt river’.

In Earlier Days it was a practice to name temples by prefixing or suffixing the name of the temples with the place or region where the temple exists(Kasi Vishwanath temple,Tirupati Balaji Temple) and so was RangaMannar temple.

Unfortunately this is not where the my research concludes…I found another site quoting

In Telugu, “Gudi” means temple. Since, Sri Rajagopalaswamy who is also called with the name “Rajamannar”, this sthalam(place) is popularly called as “Rajamannar Gudi”.

I guess you have seen many conspiracy documentaries in Discovery with out any proper conclusion..so is mine..

CLOSING LINES: ”What is more important is what you believe in...”

LOL…have a nice day…
